Around 6 times per year, agnès b. and Hans-Ulrich Obrist give carte blanche to an artist to appropriate the space of the paper. An 8-page tabloid format, identical for each artist. Repetition and difference.
This is not a paper about art, each issue is created by an artist, architect, filmmaker, musician photographer, writer…
100,000 to 300,000 copies are available free of charge around the world (in bookshops, museums, galleries, schools, cafés, etc.), as well as in all of the agnès b. locations (France, Europe, USA, Asia).

Book “look at a book”
http://www.lookatbook.com//flash/shell.html
For thirty-six weeks, a sketchbook was sent in random order between four artists: two in Brooklyn, two in Belfast.
Every Wednesday, one participant would receive book. In order to maintain schedule, it was sent out the following Monday, giving each artist five days to complete a spread in response to the one that preceded it.
A small portion of each entry extends on to the following page. Beyond this, there was no communication between the artists concerning the content of book during its making.
book’s first trip across the Atlantic was on 2 June, 2003. Its final trip was on 2 February, 2004. By the time it was completed, book had travelled over sixty thousand miles.

Do site do editor:
The Century of Artists’ Books is the first full-length study of the development of artists’ books as a twentieth century artform. This work situates artists’ books within the context of mainstream developments in the visuals arts from Russian Futurism and Surrealism to Fluxus, Conceptual Art, to Postmodernism. Designed to raise critical and theoretical issues as well as provide a historical overview, this book explores more than two hundred individual books in realtion to their structure, form, and conceptualization. Topics include the discussion of the poetics of the books, the book as metaphor, the conceptual space of the book, and books as narrative and non-narrative sequences. Each chapter uses these specific issues to examine the works of well-known book artists and publishers. The book provides a foundation for future work in the history and critical interpretation of artists’ books, as well as offering a structure for teaching artists’ books to practitioners, collectors, and curators.
What follows is the first chapter of the book:
