Bleu

Depois de ter produzido uma série de dez filmes televisivos baseados nos dez mandamentos, Kieslowski pretende abordar os grandes ideais das sociedades modernas democráticas com o Trois Couleurs: Bleu, Blanc, Rouge. Produzidos todos ao mesmo tempo, estes filmes têm como ponto de partida os ideiais da revolução francesa liberdade, igualdade, fraternidade, correspondendo cada um deles a uma das cores da bandeira de França. Ao contrário do que seria de supor, na triologia Kieslowski vai procurar não usar uma abordagem política mas antes uma íntima e pessoal sobre os conceitos do mundo moderno, fugindo ao fácil filme épico histórico. Em Bleu, em vez de trabalhar sobre um conceito abstracto, ideai, utópico, Kieslowski apresenta-nos a liberdade dando-lhe uma história, um rosto, uma cor e um som.
Como indica o próprio nome do filme, a cor azul vai ser constante na construção das imagens. Slawomir Idziak (responsável pela Fotografia) recorreu para isso ao uso de filtros azuis num equilibrio com a cores mais quentes. Mais do que tentar filmar retratos de pessoas e lugares físicos reais Kieslowski quis ocupar-se de através deles potenciar referências a lugares que não vemos mas que estão presentes ao longo de todo o filme: trata-se de colocar o lugar psicológico e emocional antes do extremo realismo.

After directing a ten tv-films based on the ten commandments, Kieslowski wants reflect about the great ideals of modern democrat societies with Trois Couleurs: Bleu, Blanc, Rouge. Directed all at the same time, these films have as the starting point the french revolution’s ideals liberty, equality and fraternity, each one with a colour of France’s flag. Otherwise as we may think, in these trilogy Kieslowski doesn’t make a political approach, but instead, he makes an intimate, personal vision about these concepts of the modern world, escaping form the easy epic historic film. In Bleu, instead of working about an abstract, ideal and utopian concept, Kieslowski shows us the liberty with a specific story, a face, a colour and a sound.
As the name of the film states, the colour blue will be the key on the construction of the images. Slawomir Idziak (Photography’s director) uses blue filters in a balance with warmer colors. More than make portraits of people and physic real places, by those Kieslowski makes references to places that we can’t see but are present in all the film: he puts the phycological and emocional place before the extreme realism.
